Review Example

(This would be an example for a problem I had last year.  Everyone let me know what you think…!)

What: Odor
Where: Regal Cinemas, New Roc City – New Rochelle, NY
When: 10/30/06
Movie: Halloween (1978) screening
Description:
Horrific odor at 8:00 pm sold-out screening of the original Halloween. Odor seemed concentrated somewhere between rows 3-5 on the right-hand side of the theater and became stronger as film began. Wife and I buried our heads inside our own shirts as make-shift gas masks but odor still permeated. Left at about the 30 minute mark.
Complained to management staff who were unsurprisingly clueless. Was forced to describe odor repeatedly as I moved up the chain of command (real examples: “like someone was slaughtering a live cow in the theater”, “like someone had to use the bathroom horribly, but didn’t leave their seat”). Finally received full refund and NO APOLOGY.

  1. The length of the theater name causes the tags box to overrun its predefined width. I like the idea of the theater chain, but perhaps just name the post the title of the theater and people will have to do with just selecting their location?

  2. I don’t know what that means… does it look messed up on your display?

  3. I see what you mean, Joe. I think it’s probably best simply to leave the theater name out of the categories, and let people look them up by geography or chain.

  4. Ok, I understand the problem now. Hmm…that stinks.

I’d love to be able to click a button to easily find other offenses at a single theater…but if there’s no workaround, the city/chain will have to do.

  5. I’m sure there is a workaround, but probably one that requires us to buy our own site with full freedom. There may be a way to trick some of the other Widgets to do it…or maybe we go to a tag cloud instead of a drop down box?

  6. Oooh, like the new layout.

  7. In terms of the tags, we can use the theater name in the titles for right now. If we ever wanted to get more functionality, it would be easy enough to move elsewhere down the line.

  8. The map kit by platial has enormous possibilites.
Anyone can add a site (theater) by address and when you click on it you can add a description and comments. Another weapon in our arsenal?

  9. I’m going to play with it. Added the theater I complained about and tried including a link to my comments…not a huge fan of the way it turned out.

  10. I was thinking of having it be a way for others to respond as well. It doesn’t work so great as a sidebar item, but the big map is better…It also only seems to work right from the main page?

And as far as layouts go, the last one was “Misty Look” and this one is “Blix.” The only other two that seemed remotely passable were “Ocean Mist” and “regulus”. Feel free to play around with those as well….

  11. Yeah…I thought the author name was on here last time I visited as well….hmmm

  12. Author name seems to be back. We just need to figure out the categories and tags stuff.

How would everyone feel about including a web link to the specific theater in your post? I’d think that would help folks find this place in a search…

  13. It looks like only I can edit the map. It was just a “try for fun” kind of thing. If it gets too tedious, it’s easily deletable.
Also, what happened to post titles being the theater name? I’ll be writing one up on Saturday…I’m hitting up 3:10 to Yuma at the local theater and will be looking at lighting, cleanliness and things of that nature.
